Pre-Care for Skin Tag & DPN Removal
- See a qualified dermatologist or licensed practitioner.
- Confirm the diagnosis—ensure the growths are benign.
- Discuss skin type.
- Stop using retinoids, exfoliants (AHAs, BHAs), or bleaching creams 3–5 days before the procedure.
- Avoid sun exposure to prevent inflammation or tanning of the area.
- Inform your provider if you’re on blood thinners, isotretinoin, or have a history of keloids.
- Delay the procedure if there’s an active infection or open wound near the treatment area.
Post-Care After Removal
Whether done via electrocautery, laser, cryotherapy, or surgical excision, post-care is consistent.
- Gently clean with saline or mild cleanser twice a day.
- Pat dry with a clean towel.
- Apply antibiotic cream (e.g., mupirocin or fusidic acid) to prevent infection and keep the area moist.
- Scabs may form—do not remove them early.
- Picking can lead to scarring or pigmentation.
- Apply sunscreen (SPF 30–50) daily even indoors, especially for face and neck areas.
- Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 2 weeks.
- Pause actives like retinoids, vitamin C, glycolic acid for 7–10 days or until the area has fully healed.
- Avoid makeup on the treated area for 24–72 hours to reduce infection risk.
- Redness, swelling, pus, or pain that worsens could indicate infection—seek medical advice.
